Feeling down? Overstimulated or stressed? Same. Here is a simple list of free or affordable things you can do right now to lift your spirits.
- Apply some lotion or moisturizer to your body and face.
- Learn how to style your hair a new way.
- Write a short list of 3 things you’re sincerely grateful for.
- Open your journal and freewrite – write without judging or stopping or self-editing- for five minutes. You can burn the piece of paper if it’s private.
- Get yourself some nice markers or colored pencils, and start drawing little cartoons. Cartoons are easy to draw and there’s no wrong way to do it.
- Get yourself a new planner and put your responsibilities on the calendar. Color code the activities.
- Make an Amazon wish list and a Pinterest board for your dream apartment or house.
- Go for a brief walk outside. If it’s hard to motivate yourself to walk, try making your destination a local store where you can buy yourself something small. Treat yourself, ya know?
- Go on Wikipedia and research a topic from history or science that you’ve always been interested in.
- Put on some music. Then clean and redecorate/rearrange your bedroom, just like we did when we were teenagers.
- Speaking of music, make a new playlist themed around a specific mood. Or you can make a music playlist that reminds you of your favorite fictional character from a book, movie, or tv show.
- Just so you know, if you live anywhere near a Barnes and Noble, Doordash will deliver you books to read!
- Make a new group chat for some of your favorite friends. Send each other some memes.
- Give yourself permission to be lazy in bed but use that time to daydream and fantasize about your dream life. This is a form of visualization exercise and might give you some ideas for how to become your best self.
- If you’re really overwhelmed right now, get yourself a stuffed animal and cuddle with it.
- Play a video game on your phone or computer.
- Start a new show or movie that people have been recommending to you.
- Look up concerts and events you might like to go to someday. Then throw $10 in a savings account to start saving up for the event.
- Write a heartfelt letter to your ex and never send it. Destroy it if you need to.
- If you’re home alone, put on slippers and a bathrobe and blast some music in your house.
- Learn to meditate. Or try praying.
- Take an everything shower and then take cute selfies of yourself. Take a risk and send them to your crush.
- Learn how to use tarot cards.
- Look up cute animals online and watch wholesome videos of them.
- Go on Amazon and get yourself a Kindle Unlimited subscription. For $10 a month you get a massive library of digital books to read. And they’re sooo good. Pick one out that interests you and read it on your phone.
